Drive=in movie in the church parking lot

Trying something new (or really old). For the next four weeks, each Friday night we'll be showing a free moving on the side of our church building, broadcasting the sound via FM radio. As people pull in the parking lot they'll receive a flyer telling them where to tune their radios, church hours, upcoming events & some scriptures related to the theme of the movie.

Originally I wanted to do a double feature with a short Bible Study in the middle, but with daylight saving time if doesn't get dark until 9ish so I gave up that idea for a flyer. Hope to do a little outreach in our freebie snack bar. We tried it once a couple of weeks ago and did pull in one family that doesn't attend church with us.

Looking forward to seeing how many we might pull in over 4 weeks.

Re: Drive=in movie in the church parking lot

We just finished ou 4 weeks of hosting a drive-in movie. We had guests come each week - guests outnumbered congregation members one week. The last week we had approximately 50 people show up. Each week another person in the congregation seem to see the potential in the idea - so we will repeat the drive-in season - probably in September.

One week we placed a small article in the paper - two car-loads of folks came in response to the little paragraph in the local paper.

This could go in the testimony area, but I like it here as well. I prayed one day about who I should be inviting to church. I have a friend at work that I invited a few years ago and he came twice - but it did not seem to meet any need for him at the time. Well after praying about this the next day he asked me about the drive-in (I had been playing with the FM transmitter during lunch at work so he new something about the drive-in already). He came up to me and told me not to let him forget about the drive-in - that he really wanted to come.

He not only came, but made it three times (he was out of town at a conference or it would have been all four times). He not only came but brought his daughter each time he came. He not only came but brought two other families with him. To me it relates back to one short sincere prayer about who to be inviting - I really need to be praying more in this area. My friend not only brought others, but stayed late to help with clean up - he gound an activity he enjoys and was interacting with others that were there.

Can't wait to try again. We enjoyed interacting with guests and since folks came back I think they got a positive impression. Movies were chosen that had good themes and a little flyer telling where to tune their radios for the soundtrack included scriptures on the theme of the evening - a small and unobtrusive witness. We got to chat with some of them as they'd come in the church building for refreshments or the restrooms. It was a small outreach but I think we can build on it.

Well September is coming and with it some cooler weather. I plan on starting another season of drive-ins on September 9th. Anybody out there have some good suggestions for movies? Looking something that would appeal to a broad age range with good moral values.
