    Saturday Morning Sunday School Lesson

Last Saturday morning, while my husband and I were out “garage salin’” I had such a simple experience that spoke to my heart.

It is something that we have all experienced, I am sure.

When we stopped at the first house, there was the cutest little blonde headed boy.  He was probably between the ages of 18 months and 2 years.  First I caught his eye as he looked at me and smiled from behind his mother’s lawn chair.  Then he came out from behind the chair a little ways and smiled really big.  He started jabbering and he kept getting a little braver until he was standing right in front of me and holding up his arms for me to pick him up.  My heart was warmed over.  This beautiful little boy had chosen me as someone to communicate with and allow me to hold him in my arms.

All of a sudden I looked down and he was walking away, going toward the next thing of interest, totally leaving me behind.  What a bummer!

The recollection of this experience has spoken to my heart as being an example of my relationship with my Heavenly Father, at times.

I think of how many times I have really gotten on a roll with a disciplined prayer life, reaching out to Him, knowing His arms were outstretched, then I was lead astray by something else.  Or the times when I have prayed and not listened to the answer and just went on my merry way.  It is so easy to be distracted by something that is more tangible, something that is easier to see; that immediate satisfaction sort of thing.

I’m not “picking on” this beautiful little boy.  I was a stranger to him.  He should be careful who he “buddies up” with.  He also had lots more things to do there that morning.  He had lots of people to welcome with that big smile.

"With a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love endures forever."  Psalm 136:12
